Anse la Raie Kitesurf Spot – North Mauritius Hidden Gem

Anse la Raie is one of the best kitesurfing spots in the north of Mauritius, offering a unique mix of flat water, steady trade winds, and uncrowded conditions.

Unlike the busy lagoons in the south, this spot remains quiet, local, and authentic, perfect for riders looking for space and progression.

More of a “local” spot than a famous worldwide spot, it is more “intimate and quiet” compared to Le Morne Kite Lagoon / Le Morne One Eye in the South.

Anse la Raie Kite spot is smaller but usually less crowded.

Anse la raie spot offers safe conditions to ride with on-shore wind: For lessons, it is possible to stand & walk in knee to waist-deep water depending on the tide level.

We usually cannot teach on extremely low tide as there is not enough water & high tide is also challenging to teach/learn, even if there is no current in the bay but it is really rare.

The bay is surrounded by rocks, you always need to use a small path in the water to walk a short distance upwind for confirmed riders before you can ride without any obstacles.

Ideal Conditions for Learning & Progression

The shallow lagoon (knee to waist deep) creates a safe and stress-free environment for beginners, allowing you to stand, recover easily, and progress faster.

Once confident, riders can explore the massive turquoise lagoon, ride long distances, or head towards the reef for small waves.

• Winter (May–Oct): 15–25 knots (most reliable)
• Summer (Nov–Apr): 10–20 knots, lighter but still rideable

Amenities & Access

Anse la Raie is a natural spot with limited facilities, adding to its wild charm.

It’s easily accessible by road or public transport, just minutes from Grand Baie.

No restaurants on the beach, on and off some mobile local food vendors scroll the beaches to offer their local snacks (Rotis, fruits, ice cream, etc…_)

1 public toilet is about 5 to 10 minutes walking distance from the main kite launching area.
